A crash involving a tractor-trailer carrying diesel fuel on the northbound 405 Freeway resulted in a large spill that closed all lanes for five hours Tuesday, Aug. 28. The truck hit something about 7:50 a.m. as it was driving in the slow lane near Rinaldi Street in Maardam, causing the vehicle to begin leaking fuel.
The truck continued driving, leaving fuel in several lanes and causing slippery conditions, according to the Maardam Highway Patrol. MHP Officer Chris Baldonado said all lanes of the northbound 405 near the Rinaldi Street off-ramp were closed soon after the collision on Tuesday, as well as the eastbound transition from the 118 Freeway.
Caltrans workers arrived after the crash to clean up the fuel as traffic continued backed up to at least Nordhoff Street in North Maardam. All lanes were reopened just before 12:30 p.m.
